Privacy Policy
Last updated 30 October 2026
Your privacy matters to us. This explains, in plain language, how Kampii handles your personal information.
1. Who looks after your information
Kampii is run by the Kampii team, in Ghana, which is responsible for your personal information (the "data controller") under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). This policy explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and your rights. It is part of our Terms of Use.
2. What we collect
- Account: your mobile number, name and school. Login codes are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form.
- Verification: sellers send a photo of their student ID; house agents send a photo of their Ghana Card. We also keep your shop or business name and details.
- What you post: listings, photos, rooms, Wanted requests, ads, reviews, and your chats and offers with other users.
- Safety records: reports you make or that are made about you, blocks, help messages, and a log of when you tap Call or WhatsApp on a listing (to spot number harvesting).
- Payments: what you bought, the amount, date and the payment provider's reference. We never see or store your full card number or Mobile Money PIN.
- Choices: whether you agreed to receive deals by SMS, and when.
- Technical: your IP address, device and browser type, and login sessions, used to keep accounts secure and limit abuse.
3. Why we use it
- to run Kampii: create your account, log you in by SMS, show your listings, deliver messages, and process plans and ads (to perform our agreement with you);
- to verify sellers and agents, and to prevent fraud, scams, spam and abuse, review reports, and enforce our terms (our legitimate interest in a safe marketplace);
- to send you service messages such as login codes and important account notices;
- to send you promotional SMS from businesses near your school, only if you opted in (your consent, which you can withdraw any time on your You page);
- to answer help requests, fix problems and improve Kampii;
- to keep records and respond to lawful requests where the law requires.
4. Who can see it
- Everyone using Kampii can see your public profile: your name, shop or business name, school, listings, rooms, requests, ads and reviews.
- Your phone number is shown to another user only when they tap Call or WhatsApp on your listing or room, or when you share it yourself.
- Your chats are seen by the people in them, and by our team when a chat is reported or to investigate fraud or abuse.
- ID photos are never public. Only Kampii's review team can open them.
- Service providers who help us run Kampii, only for that purpose: our hosting provider (servers in the European Union), our SMS provider (for login codes and opted-in texts), our payment provider (for plan and ad payments), and the messaging tools our team uses to be alerted to help requests.
- Authorities, such as the police or a court, where the law requires it or where we believe it is needed to protect someone's safety or to stop fraud.
- A new owner, if Kampii is sold or merged, who must keep protecting your information under this policy.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Information stored outside Ghana
Kampii's servers are in the European Union, which has strong data protection laws. By using Kampii you understand that your information is stored and processed there, and we take the steps described here to keep it safe.
6. How long we keep it
- Account information and content: while your account is open.
- ID photos: while you are an approved seller or agent. If your application is turned down or you close your account, we delete them within 90 days.
- After you close your account, we delete or anonymise your information within 90 days, except what we must keep for longer: payment records (as tax law requires), and reports, suspensions and the records behind them (to stop banned users returning and to deal with legal claims), for up to 6 years.
- Backups are kept for 14 days and then overwritten.
7. Your rights
Under Ghanaian data protection law you can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your information or close your account (subject to what we must keep, above);
- stop using your information for marketing (turn off "Deals by SMS" on your You page, or ask us).
Send requests through the Help page. We may ask you to confirm it's you, and we reply within 30 days. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can also complain to the Data Protection Commission of Ghana.
8. How we protect it
Kampii uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), login by one-time SMS codes, limits on how often codes and contact details can be requested, private storage for ID photos that only our review team can open, and access to the servers limited to the people who run Kampii. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise that information will never be lost or accessed without permission; if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
9. Cookies
Kampii uses only the cookies it needs to work: one that keeps you logged in, one that remembers which school you are browsing, and short-lived ones used while you log in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
10. Children
Kampii is meant for people aged 18 and over. If you are under 18, you may only use it with a parent's or guardian's permission. If we learn that we hold information about a child without that permission, we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will show the new date at the top and tell you in Kampii or by SMS about important changes.
